Indian Institute of Science (IISc) situated in Bangalore, was established in the year of 1909. It was the endeavor and vision of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. IISc Bangalore offers the opportunity for research in frontier areas and education in current technologically relevant areas. The University was granted the status of a Deemed University by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Renowned personalities like, G.N. Ramachandran, Harish Chandra, S. Ramaseshan, Brahm Prakash, A. Ramachandran, C.N.R. Rao, and R. Narasimha have been associated with the Institute as students or faculty.
